The music
Daru is a Brazilian artist-persona crafting club music rooted in the songwriter’s tradition. His sound brings the rigor of electronics — from techno to house variations — into friction with South Atlantic rhythms like funk, cacuriá, and semba.
African and Brazilian matrices move through the tracks, sometimes subtle, sometimes raw, breaking the straight beat through layers of groove.
The songs inhabit states of mind rather than linear plots; melodies and hooks provide a foothold for lyrics that explore contemporary frictions, such as the weight of control, the fear of failure, and a mind that drifts from the present.
Sound and word work together to pull perception back into the body, using rhythm as a physical force to disrupt the day’s linearity.
The project
Led by the Brazilian artist André Martinez, the work is built on the link between muscle memory and the technological instability we live in. Its foundation is physical, born from dance and a childhood shaped by music.
Paradoxically, while Daru’s pulse comes from this early physical memory, he has no single body. The artist manifests through different presences because South Atlantic complexity and digital flux make multiplicity unavoidable; a fixed identity could never hold this much movement.
This plurality defines the creative process. The manual composition of melodies, harmonies, lyrics, and arrangements — developed by André with his brother, Carlos — coexists with generative systems used here to probe how language behaves under automation.
In a landscape where image and voice no longer prove where a thing comes from, authorship is no longer a given; it is a position that must be built and defended. In the face of this instability, the work stands on the human intent to forge meaning and make the encounter possible.
Technique is the means.
