The music
The Daru Project explores club music shaped by the dance floor and rooted in the songwriter’s tradition. Its sound brings the rigor of electronics — from techno to house variations — into friction with South Atlantic rhythms.
These rhythmic matrices move through the tracks, sometimes subtle, sometimes raw, breaking the straight beat through layers of groove.
The songs inhabit states of mind rather than linear plots; melodies and hooks provide a foothold for lyrics that explore contemporary frictions - the weight of control, the fear of failure, a mind drifting from the present — while reflecting on values that reconnect us with nature and ancestry amid radical transformation.
Sound and word work together to pull perception back into the body, using rhythm as a physical force to disrupt the day’s linearity.
The project
Led by the Brazilian artist André Martinez, the work is built on the dialogue between his muscle memory and the technological instability we live in.
Its foundation is dual: physical, rooted in years of dancing in Brazilian and Latin American traditions stemming from the collision of African, European, and Indigenous roots; and mental, shaped by decades of practice in matricial principles and life-oriented systemic thinking.
The manual composition of melodies, harmonies, lyrics, and arrangements — developed by André with his Uruguayan brother, Carlos — coexists with generative systems used here as a digital canvas to express these physical grooves.
In a landscape where image and voice no longer prove where a thing comes from, authorship is no longer a given; it is a position that must be built and nurtured. In the face of this instability, the work stands on the human intent to forge meaning - an attempt to ground fragments of global data back into a bodily experience to restore their human pulse and make the encounter possible.
Technique is the means.
Life — and the encounter — are the center.
